Kia Ora from the deep blue ocean of Aotearoa, New Zealand. Heading north to Rakiura, Stewart Island was National Geographic Orion’s course as our guests enjoyed a relaxing day at sea.
The ocean has settled down, and the swells have eased. Guests gathered on the outside decks to observe the many albatrosses, prions, pintados, and petrels passing very close to the ship.
Expedition team members Mike Greenfelder and Martin Cohen kept guests entertained with presentations in the morning. After lunch, Executive Chef Rannie escorted guests on a tour of the ship’s galley. Guests were amazed at how clean and tight the kitchen is. The staff produces such high-quality meals every day.
Later in the day, Hotel Manager Fran took guests down into the hallway of the crew’s quarters. The crew is participating in a holiday competition to see who decorated their door the best. Guests were given the honour of being judges, and the winner will be announced at the captain’s farewell.
It was a relaxing but eventful day for all. Cheers!
