After our visit to the beautiful and authentic island of Folegandros we headed north to start our next morning at the ancient sacred Cycladic center, the island of Delos.

By the time the sun was rising above the neighboring island of Rinia, Sea Cloud was entering the straits of Delos. It was a mystical and magical moment. The arrival at the birthplace of the god of light to coincide with the sunrise!

It was obvious that it was going to be a clear warm day. The nice breeze from the north made our visit much more pleasant. The tenders took us early to the small pier of Delos and we were the first ones in.

The whole island is an archaeological site! We visited the sanctuary of Apollo, where we could see remains of his temples and the countless dedications to him. And of course the famous lions who were standing as a guard of honor next to the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. The small museum keeps the few statues and objects that were collected during the excavations and they definitely tell us stories of the glorious past of the island.

The other part that we visited was the residential area with the beautiful houses decorated with mosaics. And of course the impressive cisterns that collected the rain water. We also saw the theater and many people from our group chose to go all the way up to the top of the hill. They were rewarded by the wonderful views!

The visit of the sacred island of Delos is always an experience that everybody treasures!
