This morning, National Geographic Resolution was close to Devil Island in the Weddel Sea. Some guests were ferried ashore to climb the volcanic peak and to trek across the island to an Adelie penguin colony. Others were taken on a Zodiac cruise around the island, where they could view the penguins from the water.

The ship repositioned to Paulet Island, home to thousands of Adelie penguins. There was also a large pyramid-shaped Antarctic cormorant nesting site, Antarctic skuas, kelp gulls, snowy sheathbills, giant petrels, and snow petrels.

Half of the guests were able to go ashore and spend time among the throng of wildlife activity, walking along a shoreline strewn with small, grounded icebergs, while the other half took a Zodiac cruise around the floating ice. Here they saw Weddel, crabeater, and leopard seals, all lying peacefully on the ice floes.

The long and busy day finished with another wonderful meal in the 270 degrees restaurant, after which, Captain Martin Grazer took the ship for a cruise around the Erebus and Terror Gulf. The large tabular icebergs looked very impressive in the evening sunlight.
