National Geographic Quest arrived in Drake Bay today. This bay is the gateway to Corcovado National Park, the most diverse national park in Costa Rica. The park is home to an amazing 4% of the world’s biodiversity.
Exploring Agujitas River was our first adventure this morning. Guests boarded Zodiacs, and we cruised the riverine ecosystem at high tide. Our first sighting was three male green iguanas basking in a tree, offering us awesome angles for very good photos. Moments later, scarlet macaws flew around the entrance of the river. We were already completely stoked about these tropical wildlife sightings when we spotted the very uncommon boat-billed heron. The area is also home to some of the tallest emergent and canopy species on the riverbanks.
In the afternoon, we relocated to Caletas Beach, a beautiful property with a myriad of trails. Soon after we arrived, we spotted a troop of howler monkeys, and we all went ashore to see them more closely. Everyone enjoyed the hikes, and today was a great end to an amazing expedition.
