National Geographic Quest arrived in Drake Bay, one of Central America’s most biodiverse locations in regard to intensity of species and conservation. We took advantage of the good weather and offered Zodiac cruises of the Agujitas River.
The river welcomed us with nice flora and fauna sightings, including the coastal organisms found in the forest gallery. We spotted some yellow-crowned night herons and a boat-billed heron roosting in the shade of a coastal tree. These birds make us work hard to spot them!
As soon as we entered the river, we spotted a myriad of birds and even a troop of howler monkeys at the very top of the canopy. The monkeys moved to the shade of the understory, perhaps to rest through the peak heat of the day.
Later, we repositioned at Caletas Beach and shuttled our guest to the beach for afternoon activities. Guests took part in different hikes in the forest and along the coast.
It was nice to wrap things up by watching the wildlife in the beautiful buffer zone of Corcovado National Park. We encountered so much biodiversity in flora and fauna. It will be difficult to forget the wonderful expedition we had during this fun week. Pura vida!
