After saying so long to Antarctica yesterday, we awoke this morning to the Drake Passage. The weather was foggy and overcast, making it difficult to spot wildlife, so we settled in for a day of lectures and presentations by our fantastic guides.

After another delicious breakfast, we were invited to a surprise guest lecture from Andy Read, a whale expert travelling with a group from Duke University. Andy spoke about the history of whaling in the Southern Ocean. Naturalist Julia then treated us to the presentation she has been promising all voyage, “Sculpting the Antarctic Landscape.”

Following lunch, we enjoyed more time relaxing and listening to the afternoon’s lectures. First, National Geographic photo expert Jenny told us stories from the frozen continent. Then Josh shared the famous tale of Amundsen and Scott’s race to the South Pole.

Our evening wrapped up with some more delightful cocktails and a tasty dinner.
