By morning we have almost completed our passage of the Drake. There have been lots of birds and even whales. Now, in the distance, we can see South America. Without some help it is difficult to discern which mountain is the famous Cape Horn, but it soon becomes obvious when the ship gets closer.

Cape Horn has a “manned” radio station, a Chilean flag and very nice metal sculpture of a flying albatross. While it is not strange for us to see a small station, the vegetation seems a bit out of place after days of ice and snow.

A couple of hours after our encounter with the Cape we are in the quiet waters of the Beagle Channel on which we steam along for the rest of the day, accompanied by dolphins from time to time. Aboard there are presentations, chatting, packing and, of course, eating. It is also a good time to go over pictures and think about what we have experienced.

By dinner, the circle is complete… in the distance is the picturesque town of Ushuaia.
