This morning received us with the first views of the eastern Greenland coast. We navigated into the ice looking for wildlife. No clouds in the sky, we had the best conditions we could have asked for during our first day in Greenland.

As we approached the coast, we attended an extremely interesting presentation by Naturalist Steve Zeff about Andree’s attempt to reach the North Pole. Right at the very end of it, our bridge team found a perfect area full of fast ice, good enough to enter with the ship and make our first landing in the frozen sea near Kap Hodgson.

After scouting and setting an area to explore, our guests disembarked straight into the fast ice and were able to walk and enjoy the incredibly sunny afternoon. Our first day exploring Greenland was full of good weather and perfect opportunities, a good omen for the rest of our expedition.
