After a hearty breakfast, we started our morning in the Zodiacs, meandering the mangroves of El Barril in the heart of Magdalena Bay. Bird watchers were pleased, as we found the endemic mangrove warbler, as well as lots of herons, egrets, and sandpipers.

We lifted anchor to cruise the narrowest part of the bay, Hull Canal, with exciting views of mangroves and sand dunes on either side of National Geographic Sea Bird. We spent most of the cruising time on the bow finding more birds, and we were rewarded with sightings of bottlenose dolphins and a grey whale.

After a delicious lunch, we headed to the sand dunes and walked on shore for some fun times sliding on the finest sand and more bird watching in the mangroves. We discovered a shell midden and saw several traces of coyotes.

Cocktail hour entertainment was special, with a live performance of local traditional musicians, Los Coyotes, who serenaded us during a Mexican fiesta dinner. It was another great day on board!
