The last full day of our expedition, we sailed all the way to the easternmost island in the archipelago, San Cristobal. We came all the way here to spot the beautiful red-footed boobies. San Cristóbal was the first island where HMS Beagle landed when it arrived in the Galapagos. We started our day with a pre breakfast hike at Punta Pitt. After breakfast we went to the beach and had a chance to swim and snorkel. During lunch, we navigated to Cerro Brujo which is one of the ten most beautiful beaches in the world! Here we admired a big colony of sea lions, iguanas, eagle rays, and a stunning view of Kicker Rock. We ended our day circumnavigating this stunning tuff cone formation under a gorgeous rainbow. What a great day we had!
Floreana was the first island in the Galapagos colonized by people. Ecuador took possession of the Galapagos Islands in 1832 and established a penal colony on Floreana Island. When Darwin visited the Galapagos in 1835, the second island he landed on was Floreana. During his stay, he met with some of the convicts and explored the highlands.
Today was a grand first day of our expedition around the Galapagos Islands. We had such amazing encounters with wildlife; we also witnessed extraordinary volcanic landscapes which made us think we were exploring a different planet. Swimming and snorkeling for the first time in the archipelago are always part of the beautiful lasting experiences that our guests create during the expedition. Our guests are excited for the continuation of our marvelous journey in the enchanted islands. Yay!
