Today we arrived at Española Island. Located in the southeastern realm of the Galapagos, Española is the oldest island in the archipelago. We started early in the morning with an amazing pre-breakfast kayak outing along one of the cliffsides of the island. We saw many seabirds nesting and resting on the rocks along the coast.
After breakfast, our guests disembarked at Gardner Bay. They walked on soft white sand beside turquoise waters on a stunning beach. We spotted very curious Hood mockingbirds and dozens of sea lions in a breeding colony. Snorkelers enjoyed the deep blue and the amazing marine wildlife. Afterwards, we enjoyed another remarkable kayak outing.
Later in the afternoon, we headed to Punta Suarez. Over old lava boulders, we observed marine iguanas gathering in large groups for warmth. We also spotted blue-footed boobies, Nazca boobies in their nesting grounds, a Galapagos hawk, and various other birds. Today’s visit was outstanding!
