Española Island is the oldest island in the Galapagos archipelago. It offers a very good opportunity to observe several species that are endemic to not only the Galapagos but to this tiny and unique island.
While we were getting ready for our first dip in the Pacific Ocean of this expedition, many curious Española mockingbirds were flying very close to all of us. It was an unforgettable moment for our guests. On the long and peaceful white sand beach, lava lizards were observed waiting to catch the delicious flies surrounding the careless sea lions. The sea lions sleep on the sand and warm up under the equatorial sun.
The afternoon was full of magic as we walked the rocky trail at Punta Suarez. Our companions included breeding waved albatrosses, blue-footed booby couples tending to their young, and fearless Nazca boobies.
Española is known as one of the jewels of the crown in the Galapagos Islands, and today didn’t disappoint. It was a day for the nature journals!
