Today we arrived at Española, an island like no other with its contrasting landscapes. Located on the southeastern realm of the Galapagos, Española is the oldest island in the archipelago. We started in the early morning with a delicious breakfast as we enjoyed dramatic views of the impressive volcanic landscape of the area.
After breakfast, some of our guests disembarked on a big coralline beach named Gardner Bay, where we had the opportunity to observe hood mockingbirds as they made a breakfast of small Pacific green sea turtles. We also had the chance to enjoy the presence of lots of sea lions. Some of our guests went for a deep-water snorkel to enjoy the deep blue seas with amazing marine wildlife. We all enjoyed the stunningly soft white sand and the turquoise waters.
Back on board, we enjoyed a delicious lunch and a talk about photography. Later in the afternoon, we headed to Punta Suarez. This visitor site is located in a unique place on Española Island. We observed old lava boulders and marine iguanas gathered in large groups for warmth. In addition, we spotted majestic waved albatrosses, blue-footed boobies, Nazca booby nesting grounds, and many other birds, including the Galapagos hawk.
Every day in the Galapagos is an opportunity to rediscover the beauty of nature through unbelievable encounters, and today was no exception as we visited the oldest island in the Galapagos. Today’s visit was outstanding!
