The Galapagos Islands attractions continue to surprise us as days pass by, and today we had a taste of it by visiting the youngest area of the archipelago. The majestic Fernandina Island was the first experience of today’s expedition; and a comfortable dry landing at Punta Espinoza was the perfect way to begin our journey.
At the moment of our arrival, we were greeted by a welcome committee of marine iguanas that were covering the lava rock area. The charms of this place were revealed in a magnificent view of a landscape, decorated by a blue sea along with grandiose shield volcanoes.
Farther along the trail, we had the opportunity to see the flightless cormorants nesting. The presence of a baby cormorant in the nest made for an awe-inspiring moment that Mother Nature offered us during the morning. As soon as we returned to the National Geographic Endeavour, we started navigating to our next destination.
In the afternoon, our exploration continued to amaze us, and the deep water snorkeling at Punta Vicente Roca was the perfect way to begin the adventure. The magnificence of the Galapagos Marine Reserve was revealed in a delightful display of underwater nature: Pacific green sea turtles swimming by, Galapagos penguins fishing, and reef fishes of different colors were just a few of our incredible encounters during the activity.
The next part of exploration was done by Zodiac, riding along the cliffs of Punta Vicente Roca. The presence of Galapagos penguins on the lava rocks was one of the top highlights of the visit. A landscape decorated with different species of sea birds flying made it a perfect photography excursion.
Once we finished our visit, we headed directly towards the equator line, in order to experience a delightful wine tasting activity as the sun set behind the horizon, just to let us know that tomorrow the Galapagos Islands exploration continues.
