The island we visited today was a combination of everything. It had natural history, which is what we expect to find in the Galapagos, as well as human history.

Our first, early excursion was to Cormorant Point. It had one of the very few green or olivine sandy beaches around the islands. This place was also famous for the opportunities to find flamingos, beautiful solitary birds that wander around a lagoon for tiny crustaceans and peace. Incense trees covered our path and offered an amazing fragrance to the environment.

Later, an all white beach, formed by dead corals gave us the chance to see some stingrays close to shore, as well as a Galapagos shark which tried to have some pelicans for breakfast.

The snorkeling on Champion Island was spectacular. Visibility over 60 feet can’t really disappoint you. Hundreds of surgeon and angelfishes surrounded mobulas, sea turtles and sea lions made this place hard to beat.

In the afternoon, Post Office Bay was waiting to show us the history of the first settlers and sailors on the Galapagos Islands. Everybody left postcards to see if the hand to hand system still works and also found some postcards to take and deliver to keep the old tradition.

There is, for sure, no better way to end the day and enjoy the sunset than with a Zodiac ride for some more turtles and rays. Thank you, Floreana!
