Today we visited the Island of Floreana and its three popular visitor sites.

We started with an early wakeup call to visit Cormorant Point. This is a beautiful place for a nice easy walk with some shoreline wildlife. Behind the green-olivine beach where we landed there was a lagoon with some flamingos. These birds travel around the island, and this time we were lucky to see them feeding. At the end of the trail we found the fresh track of a female sea turtle that had just finished laying her eggs under the sand. As we all were hungry we returned to our home away from home, and while we were having breakfast the National Geographic Endeavour moved to the second visitor site of the day.

Here in Champion Islet lives the last group of Floreana mockingbirds that have suffered the effects of living on the first island inhabited by humans. So we took our Zodiacs to go around the coast of this place to look for this bird species and many others. Later we used this same place for snorkeling. The underwater world here could not being better! Lots and lots of fish swimming right next to an incredible drop off. Also some playful baby sea lions decided to come and see us while they waited for their mothers.

The final site in Floreana that we visited was Post Office Bay. This place was used by whalers who needed to communicate with their families while they spent years looking for these amazing creatures. They put a barrel that until now is used by people from all over the world who visit the archipelago. Also we used for the first time our kayaks to explore the bay and its wildlife while some others used the Zodiacs for the same purpose.

So another day ended in the famous but normal for some Darwin’s Islands.
