It was 6:30am and Expedition Leader Anna Kayes’ voice spoke on the god-like microphone, “Good morning, good morning. We are tracking a pod of killer whales off our starboard side. Come join us on the bow. Good morning.” Wow! What a way to start the day. And it only got better as we transferred to the whale-rich waters of Frederick Sound. Soon, both killer whale dorsal fins and humpback blows littered the horizon in all directions. After breakfast, we all returned to witness more humpbacks and even some breaches!

After lunch, we anchored in Thomas Bay for a series of hikes at one of our favorite landing spots, Cascade Creek. Guests walking deep into the lush temperate rainforest of Southeast Alaska were met with bushes of delicious huckleberry and blueberry plants galore. Another beautiful day in this amazing, wild place. Thanks for joining us!
