Happy Valentine's Day!! We awoke with our valentines in a relatively calm Drake Passage. Some pitching kept a few of us down for the day, but most of us showed our seamanship enjoying the meals, lectures, and birding of the day. We enjoyed an interesting discussion on ice ages and climate change and then were engaged by a discussion on whales and whaling.

The day continued with more readings from Antarctica's early explorers, followed by a discourse on ice fish and Antarctic history. Our intellectual enlightenment paused for a tasty dinner then continued with a slide presentation on Svalbard, a huge island in Arctic Norway where the Caledonian Star travels in the summer.
