Cape Horn, the fabled tip of South America, was glimpsed off the starboard quarter in the early hours of morning. Then there was nothing but the open sea, contoured by waves, frosted on their crests. Wandering albatross and giant petrels (see the photo) soared in our wake. Inside we turned thoughts to explorations of the armchair style as our naturalists explained the movement of land masses, the circulation of ocean currents and the life living here. And we learned too how to dance: the dance of the sea, with wide-based stance, our bodies following the rhythm of the vessel's sway.
