The Caledonian Star successfully finished her Atlantic Ocean crossing from Lisbon, Portugal to Salvador, Brazil, after having traversed almost one-sixth the circumference of the globe! Today she greeted her new guests in the colorful and historic city of Salvador, which is alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of Brazil.

A walk through the old historic district is a sight to behold. Women in native Bahian dress stroll the streets, placing colorful ribbons on the wrists of passersby, a tradition which ensures the eventual return of all who receive them. Music is heard from the balconies of dozens of colorful houses as men and women of all ages move gleefully to the rhythmic beat born long ago in the African homeland. An artist creates a beautiful painting next to a streetside café, inspired by the colorful homes which in the last few years have been restored to their colonial grandeur. In Salvador de Bahia, one's senses are brought alive as never before -- and our lucky travelers are just starting out on a wonderful exploration of Brazil.
