In the morning we had the opportunity to sleep in a bit. By 9 o'clock it was time for our first lecture in Turkey, on Greek and Roman mythology, while we were cruising along the coast. Then before we set foot on the last country on this odyssey (Turkey), Ron Suny, one of our historians, introduced us to Ottoman and Turkish history.

During lunch we entered the bay, and while we were finishing lunch Caledonian Star dropped anchor at the most beautiful village, Kekova. With Zodiacs we were brought ashore and most of the local people recognized our expedition leader, Trey Byus. Lindblad Expeditions is one of the few companies which ever makes a call to this part of Turkey.

We landed in the harbor and had to pass through the local restaurant to get in to the town. Climbing up the hill, we could really note that we are in a new country and even on another continent, Asia. The architecture looks very different from that which we had become used to on the Greek islands. Of course we were offered carpets for sale. Above the town you find a spectacular necropolis and also a castle, Kale Koy in Turkish. The castle is built on the remains of an ancient Lycian theater.

In the afternoon we took we Zodiacs to the other side of the bay. Here we could admire parts of the old Kekova, nowadays a sunken city. On the way back everyone who wanted to have a last taste of the salty Mediterranean Sea had the option for a swim. Nice, clear and refreshing.
