Atun Poza and the Rio Dorado

Massive trees, colorful butterflies, clouds of parakeets, dolphins surrounding the ship. This place has such an amazing diversity of species. No matter how we choose to explore, whether on foot, by skiff, by ship, or paddling a kayak, we are surrounded by incredible sights. Add to this the many smiling faces of the local people, and the Upper Amazon of Peru is a stunning place.

It could be the gigantic Ceiba tree nearly reaching to the clouds. Or the bucket full of piranhas that will soon be lunch for a pleasant local. Maybe the Black-tailed Trogon, with a brilliant red breast. Or the flaming scarlet mushroom found on the forest floor. Even the massive volume of water descending from the sky. Whatever it is about this place, it continues to amaze.

We all have different expectations, focuses, and priorities, and the diversity here is able to fulfill these different agendas. Reflecting back on our week by watching our slideshow, we are able to grasp a bit of how much the Amazon has to offer, and how much we have grown from our experience this week amongst this tropical paradise.
