Zapote River and Belluda Caño

By this point in our journey, we have become quite accustomed to life here in the Amazon. We are used to being out for sunrise and sunset, as well as nap time. Amazing food is to be expected onboard the Delfin II. We know we will walk, kayak, skiff ride, and cruise in the ship in a great place and search for amazing wildlife. We are ready for the spectacular sunrises and sunsets, as well as moonrises and sets. But, we never really know what new thing or old friend we will discover at any moment.

Today, we explored two quite different places. One, the Zapote River, goes into a large island, contains great wildlife, and is very beautiful. The other, Belluda Caño, contains some massive trees, is on the main Ucayali River, and also has incredible wildlife. With the help of our expert naturalists, we are able to not only explore these places, but find interesting things and learn so much about them.

It didn’t matter today whether we were in the kayak, skiffs, or walking. We did them all, and all treated us to the wonderful sights and sounds. Whether it was sitting quietly watching squirrel monkeys feed, or listen to the braying calls of the Horned Screamer, all were enjoyed. We passed a narrow channel in the skiffs, and once again had many fish jumping into the boats. So funny and exciting! As we walked, we passed a massive fig tree, recently having strangled its host palm tree.

We returned to the ship and prepared for another great dinner and sunset. As we watched our group slideshow, we reflected on our amazing experience, but thought ahead to the new things we will see tomorrow on our final excursions. What will they be?
