Neko Harbour and Paradise Bay

We began our day kayaking among surfacing minke whales, with background music from the glaciers towering above the ice-littered sea. In the afternoon we entered the famous Paradise Bay, where sunlit glacier castles and ice-choked waters magnified the strength and raw beauty of the south polar realm.

As we toured the harbour, newly fledged blue-eyed shags, clumsy with the innocence of youth, pecked at our Zodiacs while they enjoyed their first foray into the water. A weddell, crabeater and fur seal were seen floating peacefully on their beds of salt water ice. Another memorable day on the Antarctic Peninsula.
