Española Island

What a wonderful way to end our last full day in the “Enchanted Island”.

Our ship is now anchored at Gardner Bay. This visitor site is spectacular because of its white sandy beach which is shared with the locals, the Galápagos sea lion.

We started with our sea-going guests, deep water snorkeling takes place around a location called “Roca Tortuga”. Crystal clear and calm water is our prop for this underwater ecosystem teeming with fish. Some of us were rewarded with a white-tipped reef shark, turtles, even some playful sea-lions. Meanwhile the majority opted for a more leisurely “day at the beach”; laying a towel over soft sand, surrounded by wildlife of different kinds… what a wonderful place this is.

This picture was taken after all our water activities. We wanted to take a group picture before we went for lunch, so we could have a turquoise background and keep this print as a great memory of what this place is; Magic? Dream? Reality? It is different to us all, but for sure a majestic memory, one which will stay deep within us for a lifetime.

The afternoon brought us to the western part of Española, this site takes us to the home of the largest sea-bird in the Galápagos island: the waved albatross. This tube-nosed bird needs to take off from a cliff, and as a result, this is where we went. But this cliff is not just famous for the different species which it holds, but also because of its volcanic structure. Like the world famous “Española’s blow-hole”, its forceful thunder-like sound makes a nostalgic grand finale for this expedition, and we will remember these days forever.

We hope to see you soon.
