Española Island

We had a great start today as we all had the chance to sleep a little longer and get our strength together to enjoy the last and maybe the best day of the week. Today, we visited the island of Española. After a great buffet breakfast we started off at nine fifteen for our first morning outing with our eager snorkelers, around Turtle Islet. It was a bright, wonderful morning and the water was crystal clear, the white sandy bottom showed us a big variety of fish we had all seen before plus some extra attractions: a school of porcupine puffers, a couple of Moorish idols, sharks and others. We all enjoyed this beautiful and last snorkeling in the Galápagos Island.

We all then disembarked at a marvellous white sandy beach to stroll on the sand with friendly Galápagos sea lions and some of us even went snorkeling again on the shore!

Once we were on board, another great surprise was waiting for us; King Neptune sent one of his beautiful humpback whales, mother and calf to salute us. Just as we were finishing with our lunch, Second Mate Fernando Riofrio spotted the second mother humpback with her calf of the week; we all ran to the bridge deck to enjoy this spectacular show.

After all this excitement, we had a well deserved siesta. We disembarked again at three thirty in one of the most beautiful visitor sites of the Galápagos, Punta Suarez. It was a fresh, rather cloudy afternoon; the sea was choppy so the blow hole was really exciting. Waved albatrosses, Nazca boobies, red billed tropic birds, swallow tailed gulls, yellow crowned night herons, baby sea lions, big males and others were the highlights of the afternoon. We were all happy and excited as we came back on board with the fist shower of a possible incoming El Niño.

Our expedition has come to an end, and we sure know that our guests will never be the same; Galápagos will always be part of them.
