Isabela and Fernandina

We see big shield volcanoes everywhere with an inversion layer of clouds that makes them look more beautiful and mysterious. This means we are on the westernmost islands, the youngest and the most active of all. Our guests since early in the morning were on the outsides deck searching for marine mammals and enjoying the spectacular scenery. Later on it was time to celebrate the crossing of the equator line, a pirate "Jacky Sparrow" showed up and took over the captain’s place, the bridge, but only to do the countdown until we got into the southern hemisphere. It was a lot of fun.

Later on we anchored at Punta Vicente Roca for different activities such as Zodiac riding, kayaking and snorkeling. The place was teeming with wildlife. There were sea turtles all over the place, penguins in the water and also on the rocks, marine iguanas feeding in the intertidal pools and the ever present blue-footed boobies.

The afternoon found us in a different island, Fernandina, an untouched place. It is like going back to the beginning of arrival and establishment in this archipelago, it’s a magic place. You just sit down and have communion with nature, quietly and peacefully.

Late in the afternoon we came back to the ship and right away we took off toward the island of Santa Cruz, but on the way we had an incredible surprise: a large pod of pilot whales and bottle nosed dolphins were all over, jumping, riding the bow of the ship, spy hopping. We had a great time; it was a fantastic way to end up a magic day.
