Espanola Island

What a magnificent way to start the best week of our lives! Today we visited one of the most spectacular sites in the Galápagos National Park. Thousands of marine birds accompanied us all along our trail on Punta Suarez: nazca, blue-footed boobies, red billed tropic birds, frigate birds, and waved albatross, just to mention some of them.

We also enjoyed the beautiful, large and very colorful Española marine iguanas; lava lizards are also spectacular.

Even though the trail is the longest and rockiest of the week, it is really worth it... at the end of the morning, we even saw a baby hawk with the mother on its nest!Once on board, our Expedition Leader Celso gave us a briefing about snorkeling and kayak techniques. Immediately after, our team of naturalists was ready to provide with wet suits, masks and snorkels so we could enjoy our Galápagos underwater realm; this is the second largest marine reserve in the world after the great barrier reef.

After a delicious and well deserved typical Ecuadorian lunch, we took a quick siesta to start again at three in the afternoon with our water activities. By this time, the Islander had already moved around Española Island and anchored at Gardner Bay. Here we had deep water snorkeling, kayaking and beach time. Everybody enjoyed a beautiful and relaxing afternoon with a spectacular colony of sea lions at the beach.

Snorkeling around Turtle islet was definitely one of the different highlights of the day. Deep water snorkelers enjoyed delicious crystal clear waters adorned with sea stars and tropical fish.

This was a different and unforgettable Sunday on the island of Española; the best is yet to come.
