Santa Cruz & Seymour Islands

Early in the morning we start our day with pre-breakfast out to the second largest island in the Galápagos - Santa Cruz. As soon as we set foot on the dock we realize that this is a town where all efforts for conservation are situated; the Galápagos National Park and the Charles Darwin research station are positioned here. We board our busses and are headed for the highlands to enjoy the world famous Galápagos tortoise, about 45 minutes ride with a gradual incline to reach about 700 feet in altitude which brings us a lush green landscape, this is the prop for our morning expedition. Soon after we disembark we are mesmerize by the size of this giants roaming around on the while just like they did before men arrived, what a feeling to be in such place. Our younger guests are sure imprinted with their volume.

On to the buses we go for another adventure; a lava tunnel awaits us, just about a quarter of a mile long this geologic structures makes you wonder about mother nature's mighty power as we walk through. Our breakfast then appeared in front of our eyes at the local restaurant which is located very close from the end of the tunnel.

Then it was back down to the town of Puerto Ayora for a gentle walk. For some of us who like to shop, this is the T-shirt capital of the archipelago. Or one can simply have a cerveza at a local restaurant surrounded by many beautiful colors.

Soon afterwards we boarded, and while navigating some of us take siestas while others enjoy a talk about Charles Darwin in the lounge.

North Seymour is our next destination, the land of the frigate birds with their red gullar pouches, boobies with pastel blue feet, yellow land iguanas, brown sea lions, just to mention a few. This flat, once-underwater island is teeming with live, everywhere you look something is going on, even the large thundering waves and the breeze makes this place a wonderful glowing jewel.

Back on board we ride our pangas as we see the sun setting on the horizon, and we realize this is beyond our wildest dreams. Who would have thought, we are in a place forgotten by time, Galápagos… and our expedition has just started. We wonder what will be next.
