Española Island
The best last day of a magical week! We started the morning outings with three parallel activities. We had zodiacs with snorkelers, beach goers and kayakers all disembarking at the most spectacular bay around the islands. Gardner Bay at Española Island offers the most delightful snorkeling areas around its surrounding islets; great waters for kayaking around them and a spectacular white sandy beach filled with hundreds of Galápagos Sea Lions. All of our troopers had the chance to take two out of the three morning options, we all had great fun!
We started back in the afternoon at three thirty, this time to dry land in Punta Suarez; we had the most amazing welcome committee of our time in the Galápagos. We found big red marine iguanas, Sally Lightfoot crabs, lots of sea lions, lots of lava lizards, marine and land birds. We did not know what to shoot with our cameras first! We had a bouldery but varied trail. Hundreds of Nazca boobies, blue-footed boobies, many herons and the elegant and unique Galápagos Waved Albatross with their newly hatched chicks. A beautiful sunset was the islands’ farewell to us!
