Punta Vicente Roca, Isabela Island

What a wonderful day we had in the enchanted islands! We had an early start today and we were all rewarded with many wonderful sightings. There is one in particular that I believe tops all the others…Orcas!

At about 11:30am, under a bright equatorial sun and a crystal clear ocean, we heard a blow right next to the Islander. This picture was taken right at the nick of time; it surprised us, we expected it to appear far from us, but it was much closer than what we had anticipated. We all shout out with joyfulness and we couldn’t believe that this enigmatic hunter was right there in front of us. Our hearts were pounding and our emotions ran high, after all, we are in the Galápagos having the greatest time!

Punta Espinosa is the only visitor site on this island and everything else is off boundaries. No one is allowed to disembark anywhere else but here, and that tells you how much we care about this place. Fernandina volcano had an eruption a little less than a month ago. Today its volcano is silent, but we are enjoying its pleasant solitude and its enchanted sounds, the mysterious lava rocks and the wildlife on it...
