Isle of Mull, Iona & Duart Castle
The ship set off in bright sunshine from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull. Our journey of an hour and ten minutes is spiced up with the commentary and stories of Steve our driver/guide. Then a short ferry journey brings us over to Iona. Guided tours by Carol and Konia highlight the history and sights, of course the ground work had already been done by Carol’s talk yesterday.
After lunch we soaked up the sunshine and gorgeous colours on Iona before we went on the return journey, almost all the way to Craignure. But there is another sight for us to visit today – Duart Castle. This is the stronghold of the MacLeans, lovingly restored in the early 20th century by Fitzroy MacLean.
Back on the ship we are welcomed back with homemade cake and set off for our sail through the Sound of Mull to Tobermory.
After dinner we have time to explore this pretty multi-coloured town, with its lively pubs – especially on a Friday night! What a fabulous day: those strong colours on Iona shall live on in our memories (and on our memory cards) for a long time.
