Española Island

This day is been an amazing adventure. In the morning, the white sand beach of Gardner Bay was dazzling with all those sea lions, mockingbirds, marine iguanas and finches that are so unique to Espanola. The very first activity was snorkelling off Turtle Islet, and visibility was perfect: plenty of king angelfish, chubs, snappers, octopus, and jewel moray were sighted and identified. The swimming in the warm water was fantastic. There is no doubt; the best of Galápagos is the tropical weather that allows us to enjoy the beauty of the water, the coloration of the ocean in all its splendour.

In the afternoon we visited Punta Suarez and saw several pairs of blue-footed boobies doing their courtship, very unusual for this time of the year. There were many Nazca boobies, swallow-tailed gulls and Nazca chicks looking at us with great curiosity. There was a Galápagos hawk on the National Park monument, as well as near the blowhole. In spite of its fierce look, hawks are very beautiful birds with great personality and elegance.

Mother nature granted us a spectacular good-bye sunset.
