Croatia

We continued our exploration of Croatia's island-studded Dalmatian Coast. After riding briefly aboard Zodiacs from the National Geographic Endeavour to the tiny town of Pomena, we spent the morning relaxing among the iridescent green pines of Mljet National Park. Some of us went bicycle riding, while others took a short lake cruise to the historic island monastery of Sveti Santa Marija.

Returning to the ship, we had a buffet lunch followed by an illustrated presentation by Robyn Woodward called "Venice: A City and an Empire." It was the perfect introduction to our next destination, the picture postcard-perfect town of Korcula, which was once an outpost of Venice's Adriatic Sea Empire. From the spire of the town's main church, red roofs cascade down to the city walls. We completed the day's formal activities ashore with a display of Moreska sword dancing. However, we remained docked at Korcula for the evening, and guests could continue to explore the town at their leisure. Back on the ship, Captain Oliver Kruess's welcome aboard cocktail party, during which he introduced the ship's officers.
