Española Island
This amazing island is the oldest one of the Galápagos. Early in the morning we disembarked at Punta Suarez, where there was a lot of wildlife waiting for us: Sally light foot crabs with their beautiful colours, Galápagos sea lions, marine iguanas, lava lizards, blue footed boobies nesting and the mighty Waved Albatross. We had a walk along the shore. We observed incredible cliffs and admired old boulders, as well as the famous Española blowhole.
Upon our return and after a snorkelling talk we had the best meal of the week: a traditional Ecuadorian lunch! We had colours and tastes, and a nutritious display of highland and coastal dishes. We had a comfortable and smooth navigation during lunch time. At noon we arrived to Gardner Bay, located on the western coast of the island. Different water activities were offered, including deep water snorkelling. It was excellent, as was the kayaking and glass bottom boat outings. We also had time to stroll along a long white sandy beach, which we shared with dozens of resting Galápagos sea lions. We had the opportunity to practice snorkelling to be ready for the following days of the expedition.
We returned in the late afternoon to enjoy a beautiful sunset from the ship and later we gathered at the lounge for a tradition of Lindblad Expeditions, interesting recaps. At the end of the day, we all agreed that this was a fantastic day!
