Isabela & Fernandina Islands

A beautiful sunrise and a pod of more than one hundred common dolphins welcomed us this morning on the northwest side of Isabela Island. Further ahead, the Equator line was waiting for us to cross it back to the southern hemisphere.

As soon as we arrived to Punta Vicente Roca, on Isabela Island, we went to explore with our Zodiacs. Sea lions, marine turtles, flightless cormorants and penguins were expecting us. These beautiful creatures were so close to us that all our guests could admire them and take the best pictures ever. But we couldn’t stay on the Zodiacs without taking a better look at how they behave underwater, so we jumped in and enjoyed the snorkeling too.

After having a delicious Ecuadorian meal we went to visit Punta Espinosa, at the most western and pristine Fernandina Island. There, hundreds of marine iguanas were basking and did not care that we were watching them. Suddenly we heard a strange sound. Two flightless cormorants jumped in the water and started to dance and to “express their feelings” for each other. They were in courtship.

By the end of the day, we took many good memories with us: sea lions playing at the beach, a heron trying to catch a sally light foot crab and all the iguanas hugging each other to warm up.
