Fernandina Island

During a spectacular sunrise around Fernandina Island on Bolivar Channel we were surprised by a big pod of about 100 common dolphins. Lots of babies were jumping and playing around their mothers and other adults.

This was an incredible beginning for this wonderful day in the islands. After breakfast we landed at Punta Espinoza; hundreds of big marine iguanas welcomed us and we saw some of the females still nesting in the sandy areas.

Endemic lava lizards, Sally Lightfoot crabs, sea lions, frigatebirds, brown noddies and blue-footed boobies were some of the highlights of the morning walk.

Snorkeling around Punta Espinoza was a fabulous experience; we encountered turtles, flightless cormorants and tiny penguins fishing.

At 3:15 p.m. we crossed the equator and King Neptune came aboard. We had fun party on the pool deck with him and his crazy pirates, performed by our naturalists in colorful costumes.

After zodiac riding along the shores of Punta Vicente Roca, we came back on board to celebrate a wedding. Officiated by our captain on the ship’s bow, the wedding was definitely a romantic event that we haven’t experienced for a while.

This is simply how the days go by in the Galápagos.
