Bartolomé Island and Chinese Hat
We had an early walk today to the summit of Bartolomé Island in search of a marvelous landscape covered with interesting geological features. This island is considered to be an open book to geology, allowing us to travel back in time and explore the birth of an island, when life is just beginning to establish.
We snorkeled afterwards and had the chance to see some white-tipped reef sharks around Pinnacle Rock, as well as a great variety of colorful fish, some sea lions and rays.
The glass-bottom boat is the favorite for some explorers who prefer to explore the ocean from above. Several outings were offered and we certainly saw multiple species of fish in very clear waters.
During the afternoon we navigated toward Chinese Hat islet. It’s a place like no other, surrounded by lava fields everywhere and one of the best spots for snorkeling. It holds some shallow waters around the coast where some of us encountered marine iguanas feeding underwater. Some reef sharks were found resting in the caves by the shoreline.
The most outstanding part of the day was seeing the Galápagos penguins on a black lava field with a background of candelabra cacti.
There are no words to describe the magical world of the Galápagos; our experience today was unique and special.
