Seymour and Rabida Islands
Birds are animals that we all like to observe… they represent freedom with their flight; they dominate the area that humans have dreamed about always… the sky.
Maybe that’s why we like to observe birds so much, but they are always far away, well… almost always… today they opened the door of their life to us at North Seymour Island. Blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds were nesting, doing their courtship and just having their normal life as if we were not there! We sat to observe chicks being fed by the parents; we saw male frigatebirds calling, flapping their wings, inflating their red pouches, anything to get the attention of the females. Blue-footed boobies doing their dance… we were witnesses of this unique view of the life of birds.
A couple of land iguanas were spotted during the morning as well. The dry season has arrived to the islands and due to the little vegetation left, these reptiles are saving their energy, waiting for the next season, waiting for the fresh water to wake up the vegetation, their food.
In the afternoon we anchored near the red island, Rabida. Snorkeling is always a highlight here! All different kind of fishes, marine iguanas, sea stars and rays were spotted on this outing… and the glass-bottom boaters had an extra reward when they spotted Orcas! That was a surprise!
We ended with a walk along the red beach of Rabida, Flamingos and sea lions came to say goodbye as we were boarding our Zodiacs. Heading to a new adventure… feeling a little bit like birds, flying from one discovery to the next!
