Drake Passage

We’re en route to the most amazing place on the planet, the White Continent. Of course we have to get some obligatory briefings out of the way, but it’s a great time to catch up on much-needed sleep. Luckily, National Geographic Explorer and her dynamic stabilizers ensure that the moderate wind leads to smooth sailing. The Drake Passage can be the best thing and worst thing in our lives, depending on which side of the Scopolomine patch you lie on.

Since we’re in the “land” of wind and waves, it’s only fitting that we learn of the seabirds and their wandering ways. Stefan gave us an entertaining talk about seabird lives, replete with insight into their divine reproductive strategies. We have been graced with mellow seas so it’s time to learn all we can before we fall in love with the continent that we came so far for.
