At Sea

This was a good d ay to think about all we have experienced during our time in South Georgia. We have seen just about all that this amazing place has to offer. From baby Antarctic fur seals to the mighty albatross. Our memory banks as well as our camera cards were full. It was a good time to do some editing or just relax. There were presentations and a chance to see a few seabirds before the fog came in. The seas became progressively better as we travelled farther to the west towards the Falklands.

Along with thinking about all we had seen outside of the ship there were new experiences inside as well. Hotel manager Patrik and the storekeeper Anders, along with the laundrymen and waste manager, showed many of us around the working parts of National Geographic Explorer. It was amazing to see how clean the waste area was and how proud Apollo is of the work done there. Lindblad Expeditions breaks down our waste into over a dozen categories that include recyclables and solid waste. This was all explained along with how stores are brought on board. An added bonus was treats and beverages in the storeroom during the tour. The laundry men also put on a show, showing off the industrial equipment used to clean linens, towels, and clothing.

The ship continued on in the calming conditions of the sea and hoped to make Stanley in the Falklands early for a sheltered night.
