Bartolomé & Santiago Islands, Galápagos

After navigating at night time for several hours to our next destination, we woke up with the wonderful volcanic view of Bartolomé Island. Early in the morning at 6:30 our first full day in the Galápagos started. We climbed 372 steps to the summit of Bartolomé Island. I believe that there are not enough words to express what you fell when you finally reach the top of Bartolome. Surrounded by the impressive landscape you can dream about how every volcano was formed! We came back onboard for breakfast and after distributing snorkeling gear we were once again on our way to the next morning’s activities. We disembarked on a peaceful golden beach where we had several options to take. A popular one was a short walk through a sand dune that took us to a second beach. Today this beach was teeming with wildlife. White-tipped sharks swimming in the shallows, ghost crabs running all around, brown pelicans nesting on the mangroves, colorful American Oystercatchers, were just some of the animal species we found on this glorious beach. After the walk we were ready to take a dip in the refreshing Galápagos waters. Snorkeling was quite successful. We observed many fish species and even had the thrill of swimming with Galápagos sea lions.

In the afternoon we arrived at Santiago Island. We landed on a black sand beach of Puerto Egas. Some of us started doing stretching with our wellness specialists while others preferred to swim and snorkel. During the walk Galápagos fur seals were observed at a nearby location known as the grottos. Several coastal bird species were spotted as well. Big marine iguana groups, Galápagos sea lions, land birds were photographed and admired as well. In our way back to the ship a magnificent sunset accompanied us. We just can’t wait to see what new adventures and discoveries our expedition will bring to our lives tomorrow.
