Bartolomé & Santiago Islands
The somewhat overcast sky produced a sublime view and very pleasant weather accompanying all of us during our expedition to the island of Bartolomé. Climbing to the very summit of this island may look easy in the photos, but this is not quite the case; however, the experience is worth every single minute.
The almost always dry dusty terrain appears wet today due to the more steady rain the islands are having. In the nearby Santiago we noticed that the dry forest became green, refreshed, different. In the ocean is also possible to notice the presence of the rainy season, for the superficial water is warm and even though the species of fish are the same, the densities are different making some species more obvious than others at this time.
On the northern beach we spied a turtle caught by daylight while laying eggs. That was a striking experience for not very many people are blessed with such a sighting. We also had a splendid snorkeling session where we were mesmerized by the candid behavior of the penguins and the sharks that were swimming over and over near us.
Puerto Egas on Santiago Island couldn’t be more attractive. The usually indistinctive monotonous black lava looks now mottled, spattered by plants here and there. A mild breeze and the lack of sun heat allow us to appreciate very much all the tenants of these latitudes and follow their behavior.
I always listen to our guests and today just like yesterday all of them made the same comment: “This experience has been great, more than what I was expecting” And I agree completely. In the Galápagos, we should always be expectant of that incredible instant which, happening at random and at any
