Southern Isabela Island

When visiting these paradisiacal realms we can not avoid thinking how fortunate we are to be living the dream that represents an expedition to the Galápagos. The isolation and richness of wildlife that made this enchanted archipelago world famous are expressed in a beautiful way around southern Isabela Island.

Urbina Bay, located at the base of the majestic Alcedo volcano, was the location where we spent the whole morning. Hiking, swimming and, Zodiac driving lessons were some of the activities we all practiced. During lunch time, the National Geographic Islander was repositioned to Punta Moreno. This visitors’ site is located in between Sierra Negra and Sierra Azul volcanoes. The vast black lava field product of the multiple eruptions of the nearby volcanoes is certainly impressive. Some guests opted to take a long walk that makes them believe they were back in time. Other guests took as an option a long Zodiac ride along the coastline of Punta Moreno. Marine iguanas, Galápagos sea lions, blue-footed boobies and Galápagos penguins were among the animal species that were admired resting on the rocky outcrops around Punta Moreno. It was great to see how excited and happy everybody was while taking photographs of these marine bird species under a continuous rain. We came back onboard with our spirits and minds enriched with the new experiences that these remote and pristine locations brought today to our lives.
