Isabela & Fernandina Islands

Early in the morning we were cruising still seas at the northern side of Isabela Island. Right after breakfast we celebrated the official crossing of the equator with all of our guests at the bridge of the ship; after sacrificing some of them (just kidding) we had a presentation about the geology on the outer deck, where the fantastic view of Ecuador Volcano gave us the best geology classroom that we could ever ask for!

As we approached our destination for the morning, Punta Vicente Roca, we all got ready to experience a Zodiac ride along the shores of Ecuador’s volcano collapsed caldera. We enjoyed a Zodiac ride in the company of several dozens sea turtles, playful Galápagos penguins, flightless cormorants, double furred sea lions, lots of marine birds, big marine iguanas and a great number of marine creatures, such as the Pacific Sun fish or Mola mola.

Later on, the success of the morning allowed us to experience the refreshing waters of the Pacific by simply jumping off the ship’s platform and swimming along with the sea turtles.

The afternoon’s highlight was a visit to the colonies of the largest marine iguanas found in the Galápagos; along the way we also encountered the famous Galápagos hawk, the top predator of the islands. The great volcanic features of the youngest volcano in the Galápagos, la cumber, provided the perfect setting for a magnificent afternoon at Punta Espinoza, Fernandina Island.
