Española Island

Our last full day in paradise started out early in the morning with a fabulous kayak outing along the shores of Gardner Bay. A white sand beach filled with lazy sea lions was expecting our visit later in the morning.

Once back on board and after a great breakfast, we went snorkeling and to the beach to spend a marvelous time in the company of sea lions, Española or Hood mockingbirds, Galápagos doves and a bright shiny sun that smiled down on us during the whole morning.

Punta Suarez, the site of our afternoon hike, is definitely the jewel of the crown of the Galápagos archipelago. Our afternoon visit was highlighted with the most colorful marine iguanas along with big lava lizards. The first waved albatross were already flying around their nesting areas, most likely the males waiting for the females to come back from overseas to start their colorful courtship dance; later they will lay their eggs and raise their offspring until next January when they go back again to the sea to spend the hot season there and come back to land again at the beginning of April.

No less attractive where the hundreds of Nazca and blue-footed boobies, swallow tailed gulls, Galápagos hawks, finches, warblers and many other marvelous creatures that made this a spectacular hike an unforgettable farewell to the Galápagos.
