Española Island

Punta Suarez on Española Island is the jewel of the crown of the Galápagos archipelago. A day spent here is the best way to finish up a spectacular week and the most fabulous way to treasure our memories of the Galápagos until, one day soon, we can come back again to explore these magnificent islands.

This is the land of the Waved albatross, they come every end of April to reinforce pair bonds and lay their eggs. The Waved albatross of the Galápagos stay out at sea during the very hot months to come back only to this island of Española and nest. They stay until their baby chicks are ready to fly away into the sea, and one day they will be mature enough to land and start reproducing.

The welcome committee was formed by hundreds of colorful Sally Lightfoot crabs and all sorts of incredible creatures. They led us to the rocky trail ending up at the broken rocky cliffs where albatross jump into the air to start their long journeys into the seas. As we landed we spotted dozens of red marine iguanas, lots of sea lions, big lava lizards, blue-footed boobies and Nazca boobies as well. We also spent time breathing the delicious marine mist that the jumping salt water exhaled at the famous blowhole.

Our hearts were filled with joy and inspiration. At dusk the sun went down as a farewell to these islands and all their natural treasures.

So long to the Galápagos and their unbelievable wildlife!
