Isabela & Fernandina Islands

An unforgettable day in one the most pristine and remote paradises on Earth! After being around this magical, but that is not so. Every single day in this archipelago is filled with the fascinating sense of discovery and sincere amazement. Early in the morning we observed for a long time a very large pod of common dolphins (Delphinus delphis) jumping cheerfully out of the water. After crossing the Equator we boarded the Zodiacs in the search of adventure. Today I observed for the very first time in the Galapagos a large school of sunfish (Mola mola) Eleven of them were together! It was great! The Giant sunfishes were swimming placidly at a very close range from the Zodiacs. We all were extremely thrilled and happy to witness such an event. This fish species can reach gargantuan sizes. The world current record in weight is 5072 pounds and 10 feet in diameter. Snorkeling was next, and it was very successful. We observed several endangered Pacific sea turtles, many different fish species and colorful invertebrates.

In the afternoon we visited Punta Espinoza on Fernandina Island. This paradisiacal location is as close to a dream as you can imagine. Black lava flows merging with clear blue skies and waters compose an idyllical artistic scene. Large concentrations of marine iguanas mingling with Galápagos sea lions and flightless cormorants make this place a favorite for our visitors. A glorious sunset told us that it was time to go back onboard. Reluctantly, we all came back with our hearts and minds fully replenished with the new feelings and memories that we accumulated during the day.
