Bartolomé & Santiago Islands

With an early morning wakeup call we started at six thirty with our walk up to the summit of Bartolomé Island. More than 300 steps took us gently to the high summit of this very eroded volcano.

As we disembarked we had a very nice welcome committee with loads of adult Sally light foot crabs, a big marine iguana, and tons of tiny bait fish. Three Galápagos penguins were swimming and fishing around.

Once on board we were briefed on snorkeling arts and our naturalists geared us up. Bartolomé’s highlights were the geological features and the great snorkeling. Some of us shared the shores with penguins.

The afternoon at Puerto Egas was a little overcast. Snorkeling lovers went in the water again and then we all walked along the jagged shores of the western coast of Santiago Island. We saw the grottos of the fur sea lions.

It was a marvelous day!
