Isabela Island

Isabela is the biggest island in the Galápagos archipelago and has a great diversity of ecosystems with a lot of unique species, particularly endemic reptiles. Hiking at Urbina Bay in the morning gave us the chance to see several land iguanas and two baby giant tortoises besides a big pod of bottlenose dolphins showed up in our way to the landing beach and also in our way back to the ship; we could not ask for more, the dolphins were bow riding on the sides of our Zodiacs so close to us.

In the afternoon our anchorage point was Tagus Cove, a very historic place in the Galápagos Islands. It has been visited by many buccaneers and whalers, but probably the most famous visitor that landed very close to this site was Charles Darwin, a famous naturalist who arrived at the age of twenty-five to explore this living laboratory.

At Tagus Cove, guests could choose to go deep water snorkeling, kayaking, Zodiac riding and hiking; almost everyone did it all to be able to see the underwater world, the shore line, and the amazing geology of the area situated among two big active volcanoes called Darwin and Wolf.

Galápagos penguins, flightless cormorants, blue-footed boobies, brown pelicans, ground finches and sea turtles were some of the creatures we found at this special place.

After the day of exploration, we set sail to continue with our expedition in this marvelous paradise; we are all now looking forward to find out what is coming next!
